Last Call for American Truth

Is it possible that the American people have finally found out what has happened to their Democracy? President Bush’s approval rating is tanking as steadily as the cost of tanking up rises. Vice President Cheney is fading into obscurity amid calls for his retirement; probably spending his days tracking the rise in his Halliburton holdings, now that his conflations and lies about Iraq’s terrorism connections and capabilities are exposed.

Tom Delay has faded from the scene after the Republican controlled House of Representatives had to reverse their earlier attempt to insulate him from culpability due to the public furor over their ethics rule changes. Even Bill Frist and his fellow right wing Senate cohorts are trying to look more like populists as they agonize over the pending November election campaign.

The only way the American people have any chance to get the truth about the lead up to the war in Iraq and the cozy relationship between Bush/Cheney team and corporate pals, is to kick out many Republicans from congress come this November. They have served as a rubber stamp for this administration ever since his election. It is no wonder W has not had to veto one piece of legislation in five and a half years.

Ever since the Supreme Court validated his takeover in Florida, this trio of neocon controlled branches have run roughshod over democracy as the Democrats in congress, who have no say so whatever in the legislative, investigative processes, are barred from any significant input on the functions of governance. Checks and balances is why the framers chose three separate branches of government in the first place.

The only checks and balances apparent have been the blank checks written at the peoples expense to corporations and the negative balances mounting in the national debt. Cooked intelligence, contrived reasons for eavesdropping on private citizens, the muzzling of any government agents who stray from their monotone, corporate giveaways, pure pork barrel pilfering, all told, I wonder if the voting public will finally say enough is enough. Or will the Rove led Republicans once again perform their rhetorical magic of confusing voters on hot button issues to betray the interests of Democracy.
